Is organic food better for you? The answer is.........

Here is a comment from the UK watchdog Food Standards Agency that kinda confirms what I have felt for a long time. That this organic food nonsense is just that....nonsense. Its just people taking money off gullible consumers.

Oh, people will say it tastes better but I seriously doubt they will pass any taste test. Better nutritional value? Apparently not. Pesticides? Not an issue.

If you want to pay more for your food, that is of course your prerogative, do but bear in mind that organic food actually does come with an increased cost to the environment.

hmmm, I am a vegan.

Consuming organic vegetable does taste better - perhaps not so from the source of growth, but the transportation, washing and handling. It is more fresh because of the additional effort in order to fetch a higher price.

Of course we can still use the common vegetables but clean it properly and in the process throw away half of them most of the time.

haha

Oh I don't know....I generally get to eat most of what I buy from the market, so doesn't seem to be very much wasted food there. :)

What are the increased costs to the environment? In Australia, people are opting for organic food in the belief that farmers will use less pesticides, and so alleviate the harm to the environment.

I think essentially its a less efficient/productive form of agriculture, which means that to provide 'organic' food for the world's population, you will need more 'virgin' agricultural land for the crops.

But I am not an agriculturalist and I don't have any hard data. Just based on 'common sense'.
